Uberti has been producing replica single action style cowboy revolvers, and lever action rifles. Although they have reproduced many models to exacting detail, some features have been improved for safety or simply from modern materials and machining processes for a superior longer lasting firearm. The 1860 .38Spl Army conversion is a faithful reproduction of the cap and ball revolvers that were converted to use the cutting edge metallic cartridges of the time period. The brass frame and trigger guard sits under a case hardened steel receiver for a striking look and comfortable to shoot. The 4.75" barrel provides exceptional accuracy and its blued finish adds to the classic look of the 1860 .38Spl Army conversion. Being a single action revolver, the Uberti 1860 has a side loading gate that must be opened while the hammer is at the loading position to freely spin the cylinder to load or unload the revolver. The orginal cap and ball revolvers needed to be cut at the back to allow the extra room for the metallic cartridge, the cylinders are engraved with intricate designs for a classic look. The Uberti 1860 .38Spl along with many thousand converted percussion cap revolvers eventually found their way into the hands of sheriffs, outlaws, gunfighters, ranchers, and others who called the wild west home.
